: Gardening.

this weekend

FOR a delicious summer crop, sow courgettes and French beans in the ground and harden off tomato plants in pots, intended for outdoor cultivation, by starting to put them outside during daytime. Do this for a fortnight before planting them in the ground or in large pots.

l KEEP down weeds in beds, borders, fruit areas and vegetable plots by regular hoeing and hand-weeding before they flower. Remember the old saying: ``One year's seed means seven years' weed.''
