By Sana Hiyari After five months of hard work, C[pounds sterling]Petra UniversityC* The Legend ContinuesC[yen] documentary film was screened in front of University President, Dr Adnan Badran, members of the administrative and academic faculties, students and studentsCO families. This film was the outcome of a course at the Department of Journalism & Mass Media. A visiting Fulbright scholar, Professor Bill Knowles taught this course to 13 students. Prof Knowles, now retired, has over 25 years experience in this field. He was the chairman of the Radio & Television Department at the University of Montana in the USA. He also was a news producer and executive at ABC News. Though the film was in Arabic, Prof Knowles did not find language a barrier. C[pounds sterling]This course is one of the grandest experiences that I can have as a professor,C[yen] said Knowles. C[pounds sterling]The right way to teach television is to have students produce television. Students have to practice it.C[yen]This course gathered 13 students from different backgrounds to work as a team. Every one of them had a task to complete. Janan Zaitoun, the producer of this film is in her second year majoring in Journalism & Mass Media. She said that she had felt the team spirit throughout the course and especially the last month when the pressure was on.C[pounds sterling]The professor never put us down. He did his number one job as a teacher, which is to encourage us,C[yen] Janan said. C[pounds sterling]This course constituted many steps towards my dream which is making movies.C[yen] Rami Al-Masri, who edited the film, has since graduated. C[pounds sterling]I consider this film as one of my best achievements. I now feel confident to enter the marketplace to work as an editor, photographer and even director,C[yen] Rami said.Even though Ghadeer Abu TalebCOs major is English Literature, nevertheless she thinks it is a great feeling to be a reporter and to grab a camera in order to shoot scenes. For her, this course has opened many doors to a new world of television and media. C[pounds sterling]At the beginning I was not that excited about this course, but after a while I found myself getting really involved in this field,C[yen] said Nour Abu Omar, a segment producer and a photographer. The director, Mahmoud Zuaiter said that he is really proud to be part of this film. C[pounds sterling]When I first heard that ICOm going to be the director, I felt that I can use what I learned through my four years here and add it to the filmCOs overall picture.C[yen] This film is a living proof of Petra UniversityCOs development, especially the Department of Journalism & Mass Media. It is not just a documentary film about the University; rather it is what the university aims to accomplich in terms of engaging the students in experiences where cultures meet. The film also reflects the team work that Petra University tries to instill in its student body.All members of the team admit that this film would not have seen the light without the support of the UniversityCOs president and all facultiesCO members, especially the studio supervisors and technicians Tayseer Al-Jamzawi and Wasan Haddad. Five months ago, 13 students entered the studio room at Petra University with one dream. The dream was to make a documentary film that reflects the heart and soul of their university.
