(GEN)TURKISH BUSINESSWOMAN HONORED WITH SPANISH ROYAL MERIT.


ISTANBUL, Oct 5, 2009 (TUR) -- Spain presented an order of merit Order of Merit

 to Turkish businesswoman Guler Sabanci on Monday over her contributions to Turkish-Spanish relations.

Spain's Deputy Prime Minister A Deputy Prime Minister or Vice Prime Minister is, in some countries, a government minister who can take the position of acting Prime Minister when the real Prime Minister is temporarily absent.  Elena Salgado honored Sabanci Holding Executive Board Chairperson Guler Sabanci with the Spanish Order of Civil Merit, "Encomienda encomienda (ānkōmyān`dä) [Span. encomendar=to entrust], system of tributory labor established in Spanish America. Developed as a means of securing an adequate and cheap labor supply, the encomienda was first used over the  de Numero" in a ceremony organized in the name of King Juan Carlos I of Spain Juan Carlos I (baptized as Juan Carlos Alfonso Víctor María de Borbón y Borbón-Dos Sicilias; born January 5, 1938, Rome, Italy) is the reigning King of Spain. .

Salgado, speaking at the ceremony at Spanish Embassy, said Spain appreciated and wanted to honor Guler Sabanci's talent, power and high success.

Salgado said Spain advocated Turkey's full membership bid to EU, noting that Turkey was among the first ten markets for Spain having priority in investment and trade areas.

Sabanci said it was an honor for her to get such a meaningful award.

In an earlier statement, Spanish Embassy said Guler Sabanci has displayed remarkable efforts to promote the Turkish culture in Spain and to introduce Spain's culture to Turkish people.

The statement pointed to Sabanci Museum's hosting the paintings of Spanish painter Salvador Dali and Sabanci's introducing the Ottoman calligraphy art in Spain.
