(GEN) ISTANBUL HOSTS REGIONAL MEETING ON DISASTER PREPAREDNESS.


ISTANBUL, Nov 18, 2009 (TUR) -- A regional meeting on disaster preparedness and prevention launched Wednesday in Istanbul, bringing together civil defense authorities from countries in southeastern Europe.

The 19th regional meeting of the Disaster Preparedness and Prevention Initiative (DPPI DPPI Dipeptidyl Peptidase I ) of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe is an institution aimed at strengthening peace, democracy, human rights and economy in the countries of South Eastern Europe.  is hosted by Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate.

The Initiative was launched in 2000 in an effort to contribute to the development of a cohesive regional strategy for disaster preparedness and prevention.

The DPPI seeks to provide a framework for South Eastern European nations to develop programs and projects leading to strengthened capabilities in preventing and responding to natural and man-made disasters.

Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina Bosnia and Herzegovina (bŏz`nēə, hĕrtsəgōvē`nə), Serbo-Croatian Bosna i Hercegovina, country (2005 est. pop. 4,025,000), 19,741 sq mi (51,129 sq km), on the Balkan peninsula, S Europe. , Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Greece, Hungary, Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia and Turkey are the members of the DPPI.
