(EDU) LANGUAGE INSTITUTE TO BE ESTABLISHED AT MARDIN'S ARTUKLU UNIVERSITY.


ANKARA, Sep 11, 2009 (TUR tur: see ibex. ) -- The President of Turkey's Higher Board of Education (YOK YOK Yuksek Ogretim Kurulu (Turkish Council of Higher Education) ), Prof. Dr. Yusuf Ziya Ozcan, said Thursday a decision has been taken to establish a language institute, called "Living Languages in Turkey", at south-eastern province of Mardin's Artuklu University.

With the new institute, Artuklu University will be able to offer programs in Kurdish, Persian, Arabic and Assyrian languages Assyrian language, East Semitic dialect that evolved from Akkadian after 1950 B.C. The term Assyrian is sometimes incorrectly used for the Akkadian language as a whole because the first inscriptions in Akkadian to be found in modern times were discovered in .

The goal of the institute will be to train academicians in the above mentioned languages.

Artuklu University may be able to offer graduate and post-graduate degrees in the aforementioned languages.
