(ECO) TURKISH BUSINESSPEOPLE MEET OFFICIALS FROM AFRICAN REGIONAL ECONOMIC GROUP.


ISTANBUL, Jun 29, 2009 (TUR tur: see ibex. ) -- A confederation of Turkish businesspeople and industrialists have gathered with representatives from a regional African economic bloc to seek ways to improve trade and economic cooperation.

A meeting was held in Istanbul on Monday between the Confederation of the Turkish Businessmen and Industrialists (TUSKON), and representatives from Common Market for Eastern Southern Africa (COMESA COMESA Common Market for Eastern & Southern Africa ).

High level officials from COMESA members including Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Egypt, Sudan, Seychelles, Mauritius and Swaziland participated in the event which also hosted a series of meetings between development agencies of the individual COMESA members and Turkey.

COMESA is a grouping of 19 member states which was established to collaborate in economic development through regional integration. It is estimated that COMESA?s total population is over 400 million with an annual import bill of close to 71 billion USD USD
