() Dr. of Turkish Airlines (THY) said on Thursday that THY was the only airline company which made investment, opened new destinations and grew fastest despite the global economic crisis. Kotil held a news conference in Madrid to mark the 25th anniversary of beginning of THY's flights to Spain. Kotil said that THY held Madrid-Istanbul flights three times a week in November, 1984, adding that today it was holding ten flights a week. He noted that THY carried 43,000 passengers from Madrid in 2008, adding that this number increased to 53,000 in the first ten months of 2009. Kotil recalled that the second destination in Spain was Barcelona, adding that it was also the tenth year of beginning of Barcelona-Istanbul flights. Kotil said that THY was the fourth biggest airline company in Association of European Airlines The Association of European Airlines (AEA) includes 31 European airlines. The aim of the association is to represent the airlines within the European Union and other international bodies. A total of 346,475,239 passengers travelled on these airlines in 2005.
