(DIP)FOREIGN MINISTRY ON ENTRANCE OF TURKISH CITIZENS TO GERMANY WITHOUT VISA.

ANKARA, Jun 11, 2009 (TUR) -- Turkey said on Thursday that Germany's "visa exemption" application for Turkish citizens was complicated and could lead to some problems in practice.

Germany started to implement a new arrangement in June in line with the decision ruled by European Court of Justice that clears the way for Turkish nationals providing services in European Union member states to enter the EU without having to obtain visas.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Burak Ozugergin told a news conference that Ankara welcomed a statement of the German Embassy dated June 5 that Turkish artists, scientists, sports people and drivers would no longer need a travel visa to enter Germany.

Ozugergin said visa implementation was a sovereignty right of every country noting that Turkey could not intervene in domestic affairs of other countries, "however this issue gained a foreign dimension with the decision of European Court of Justice," he added.

Ozugergin said a commission would be established to prepare a guide to implement decisions of European Court of Justice, "Turkey has been launching necessary initiatives to the commission," he said.

The European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruled in February that two Turkish truck drivers working for a Turkish company engaged in the international transport of goods had the right to enter Germany without a visa under a past agreement signed between Turkey and the European Union.

The German Embassy said Turkish artists, academicians, sports people and drivers can enter Germany for providing services of artistic, scientific and sportive value, on the condition that they maintain their place of residence in Turkey and their stay in Germany does not exceed two months.
