(DIP) TURKISH CYPRIOT LEADER RECEIVES DOWNER.LEFKOSA, Nov 12, 2009 (TUR) -- President Mehmet Ali Talat Mehmet Ali Talat (born July 6, 1952) is the current President of the de facto Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (or KKTC in Turkish), which controls the northern third of the island of Cyprus, but is unrecognized by any nation except Turkey. of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC TRNC Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus ) received Alexander Downer, the United Nations (UN) secretary general's special adviser on Cyprus, in Lefkosa on Monday. Progress made during the ongoing Cyprus talks process was high on agenda of the closed-door meeting which lasted for about an hour. Meanwhile, President Talat is set to meet with Greek Cypriot administration leader Demetris Christofias in the buffer zone in Lefkosa on Friday.
