(DIP) ISTANBUL TO HOST WORKSHOP OF ORGANIZATION FOR PROHIBITION OF CHEMICAL WEAPONS.

 (OPCW) will hold a workshop on Universality of the Chemical Weapons Convention Noun 1. Chemical Weapons Convention - a global treaty banning the production or acquisition or stockpiling or transfer or use of chemical weapons  in Istanbul on April 16 and 17.

Turkish Foreign Ministry The Turkish Foreign Ministry is the Turkish government agency responsible for international relations.  stated on Tuesday that the main objectives of the workshop were to promote awareness of the Convention, its universality, and effective implementation among states in the Mediterranean basin, the Middle East region, and neighbouring countries.

Over 70 experts are expected to attend the workshop.

The ministry said that Turkey, which had been a side of Chemical Weapons Convention since 1997, would continue to contribute to the efforts on international level to prohibit expansion of weapons of mass destruction Weapons that are capable of a high order of destruction and/or of being used in such a manner as to destroy large numbers of people. Weapons of mass destruction can be high explosives or nuclear, biological, chemical, and radiological weapons, but exclude the means of transporting or , control the weapons as well as disarmament.
