(CUL) INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARIES TO BE SCREENED IN ISTANBUL.


ISTANBUL, Nov 22, 2009 (TUR tur: see ibex. ) -- Eighty documentaries will be screened in the Turkish city of Istanbul within the framework of an international film festival.

) will organize the International 1001 Documentary Film Festival in Istanbul between December 3 and 11 "to fill in the gaps of the social memory and to achieve the cultural continuity".

The first festival was held in 1997.

Peter van Bueren of the Amsterdam Documentary Film Festival; Tue Steen Mueller, the founder and former head of the European Documentary Network (EDN); Greek directors Robert Manthoulis, Stavros Psillakis, Elias Giannakakis and Geranimos Rigas; Dutch director Michiel Erp; Brazilian director Daniela Broitman; British director Yumiko Hayakawa; Cuban director Rioberto Lopez Pego Pego can refer to:
  • Pego, a Portuguese parish, located in the municipality of Abrantes.
  • Pego, a Spanish municipality located in the province of Alicante.
; and Russian director Georgy Paradzhanov are among the guests of this year's festival.

A conference of documentary filmmakers on "documentary cinema as a form of art", panel discussions, courses and several other types of activities will take place within the framework of the festival.

Parliament Square", "Revue", "Blockade", "Natureza Morta", "One Man in the Band", "Mata Tigre", "Trumphet Republic", "Zanzibar Musical Club", "Vlada", "A History in Black and White", "Ziyaretciler" (Visitors), "73. Millet" (73rd Nation), "Copte Dostoyevski Buldum" (I Found Dostoyevski in Garbage Can), "Ben ve Nuri Baba" (Nuri Baba and I), "Kursun Kalem" (Pencil), and "5 No'lu Cezaevi" (Prison No. 5) are among the films to be screened in the festival.

The venues of the festival will be French Cultural Center, Suna-Inan Kirac Foundation Pera Museum, Tarik Zafer Tunaya Culture Center, Muammer Karaca Theater, Kumbara Arts, Nazim Hikmet Culture Center, Sumerbank building and Tobacco Depot.

The documentary filmmakers conference will take place at the Galatasaray University.
