(CUL) FIRST STAGE OF CYBER SILK ROAD PROJECT COMPLETED.

The Black Sea Interconnection (BSI BSI - British Standards Institute ) project, also named as the "Cyber Silk Road", was inaugurated by a meeting in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi.

BSI (Black Sea Interconnection) project intends bridging the digital divide that exists between the South Caucasus countries and Europe by establishing a regional research and education network in the South Caucasus and connecting it to GEANT GEANT - A simulation, tracking and drawing package for HEP. 2 (European academic network).

The project involves the development of strategies for interconnecting the existing infrastructures in the region, realization of the connections and supplying operational support for the established network. The existence of interconnections between the South Caucasus countries and connection to GANT GANT Gastrointestinal autonomic nerve tumor. See there. 2 with reasonable capacities will enable introduction of new services to the region and will be an important step towards the integration of the scientific potential in the region with Europe.

The GEANT project was a collaboration between 26 National Research and Education Networks representing 30 countries across Europe, the European Commission, and DANTE. Its principal purpose was to develop the GEANT network - a multi-gigabit pan-European data communications network, reserved specifically for research and education use. The project also covered a number of other activities relating to research networking. These included network testing, development of new technologies and support for some research projects with specific networking requirements.

The Caucasus was a challenging region and regional countries had some political disagreements and problems, a Turkish professor told AA correspondent after the ceremony in which the project was launched.

Professor Omer Anlagan, the deputy chairman of the Scientific & Technologic Researches Council of Turkey (TUBITAK TUBITAK Türkiye Bilimsel ve Teknik Araþtýrma Kurumu ), said that he hoped the information network would contribute to solution of regional disputes.

The project, within the scope of the European Union European Union (EU), name given since the ratification (Nov., 1993) of the Treaty of European Union, or Maastricht Treaty, to the

European Community
 (EU) seventh framework programs, will enable more than 150,000 academicians and students in Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia to access to the European academic network GEANT.

The National Academic Network and Information Center (ULAKBIM ULAKBIM Ulusal Akademik Að Ve Bilgi Merkezi ) of the Scientific & Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) is carrying out the "Cyber Silk Road" project.

The ULAKBIM is working hard to pass the fiber optic cables via Turkey. TUBITAK is responsible for the tenders and operation of the project till March 2010, and also wants a Turkish institution to win the second tender planned to be held after March 2010.

The project was launched on March 1, 2008 with a 2 million Euros of budget. The European Commission meets 1.4 million of the project.
