'What's in a Can of Paint?' VLC covers basic ingredients of coatings.

Answering the basic question of "What's in a Can of Paint?," a Virtual Learning Conference (VLC) will be presented on June 12, 2008, by Linda Adamson, of Rohm and Haas Company.

This VLC will provide insight into all of the key components that make up waterbome house paints and coatings. Attendees will learn the impact that quality has on performance, and the key differences in performance among the various latex chemistries currently in the marketplace. Also discussed will be the importance of attaining low volatile organic compounds (VOC) in coatings.

The online conference is intended for technical assistance personnel and bench chemists in applications and synthesis who are relatively new to the coatings industry.

Course instructor Linda Adamson received her B.S. Degree in Chemistry from Philadelphia College of Textile & Sciences (now Philadelphia University). She has been employed by Rohm and Haas for over 26 years at the research facility in Springhouse, PA.

Working in the Paint and Coatings Material Group, her current responsibilities are to lead the applications effort for technical service for the architectural wall coatings and masonry market segments, along with research and development projects for the low-VOC market.
