She was found dead from massive bleeding to the brain less than 10 hours later. Davies, of Fincham Road, Huyton, denies murder and manslaughter on November 4 last year. The 49-year-old accepts striking Miss Hanley, who had a son and daughter, aged 13 and eight, but insists he only slapped her in selfdefence during a blazing row. But yesterday Miss Hanley's mother Kathleen wiped away tears as she told Liverpool Crown Court of her last conversation with her daughter, who had been on a night out with Davies. Mrs Hanley told the court her daughter had rang her from her mobile at about 12.30am. She said: "I asked if she was all right. She said: 'No, I've just had a row with Brian, I'm in a taxi going home by myself." Mrs Hanley told how the phone was bleeping bleep n.
