Zwick, the major weakness of conventional small pendulum hammers is that the weight of the pendulum arm limits the ability to concentrate all of the force at the point of impact. Compound-type pendulums also lack stiffness in the perpendicular direction. With the model HIT5.5P, Zwick has pioneered what is said to be the world's first low-vibration pendulum using double suspension rods.

For changing pendulum hammers to meet different standards, the HIT5.5P has an integrated pendulum recognition system that reportedly eliminates the possibility of confusing pendulum sizes or tests. Zwick has also addressed the issue of the Izod vise's clamping force, which can influence test results. A manual vise with a precision threaded spindle spindle: see spinning.
