'UN' role for pupils.

STUDENTS from across the region will gather in Bahrain in two months, to tackle major dilemmas facing the international community.

They are taking part in the fifth Bahrain Universities Model United Nations (BUMUN) conference on December 12 at MUvenpick Hotel.

The event, sponsored and organised by General Organisation for Youth and Sports (Goys), will centre on the theme 'Human Rights'.

Training sessions are taking place in the build-up to the annual event, to prepare participants in diplomacy and public speaking skills.

They are being conducted by BUMUN founder and adviser Doris Martin every Sunday, at Goys Science Centre, Umm Al Hassam Umm Al Hassam (Arabic: أم الحصم) (trans. Mother of Sea Shells) is a middle-class neighbourhood on the southern coast of Manama, which is the capital of Bahrain. .

 regional manager Nejib Friji talked about the global Stand Up Against Poverty campaign.

Ernst and Young graduate development manager Ms Martin is working as a volunteer for the programme.

Five committees have been set up to organise the programme: public relations public relations, activities and policies used to create public interest in a person, idea, product, institution, or business establishment. By its nature, public relations is devoted to serving particular interests by presenting them to the public in the most , logistics, administration, documentation and programme.

The sessions will offer advice on chairing committees; procedural rules; public speaking; how to write a resolution and position paper; lobbying and merging; and debate skills.

Each participant will represent a country and try to find peaceful solutions to problems facing the country and the region.

Delegates at the General Assembly will tackle issues relating to child and adolescent health and development, the financial crisis and water shortage.

The Economics and Social Committee will discuss the right to asylum, torture and extraordinary rendition and democratic governance: the election question.

Ms Martin said participants should look forward to the crisis topic, which will prepare them to think and make quick diplomatic decisions.

"This year's crisis topic will be the highlight of the conference as it will be different from others in the past years. It will not be revealed until the conference day."
