Citing unidentified sources, Haravghi claims that these extreme factions were being financed and given moral support by people in Cyprus and abroad. The communist mouthpiece said Christofias was determined to send a clear message that he would not tolerate the resurgence of terrorist ideology and "subversive action". The president reportedly called on all parties to isolate any fascistic elements and make the distinction between political disagreement and political thuggery which cultivates a culture of fascism, hate and violence. The government spokesman was unavailable for comment yesterday on whether there were any grounds to suspect a plan was being hatched to overthrow the president.
