'There's a Sid in every home'.

What do Bollywood A-lister Ranbir Kapoor, top filmmaker Karan Johar and debutante director Ayan Mukerji have in common? Now before you assume the answer is "Bollywood's most-happening trio", here is a lead. The clue is buried in their latest project Wake Up Sid - a tale about a college graduate grappling with quarter-life crisis.

Johar is the producer of Wake Up Sid, the title role is played by Kapoor and the director is Mukerji. And just like the on-screen character Sid, the trio claims they were all lovable losers at one point in their lives.

Think super-rich slackers cruising around in Mumbai in swanky cars or bar-hopping for a living to get a rough idea of their carefree existence. But they all seem to have cleaned up good.

"I would be lying if I said I did not go through a phase where I was partying hard and hanging out with friends all day," says Kapoor over the phone. "After college, I was so aimless. All I did was date woman after woman or listen to music all day. There's a Sid in every one of us. There's a Sid in every home."

Born with the proverbial silver spoon, 27-year-old Kapoor is considered to be a Bollywood blue-blood and it's believed that his last name carries more weight than any awards or merit certification.

Infectious Profession

"It's true I come from a typical filmi family. Like for breakfast, we begin by talking about Barack Obama or Mickey Mouse, but towards the end we all come back to films. My entire family lives and breathes films. It's the most infectious profession in the world."

The two-films-old Kapoor says his quarter-life crisis was a temporary phase and did not last long.

"Fortunately, I knew all along that I would end up in movies. I did some pretty wild things before that. But the question was where should I ideally begin? Being surrounded by actors helped."

Unfortunately, Kapoor's choice of his debut vehicle - Saawariya directed by Bollywood A-list director Sanjay Leela Bhansali - was far from perfect. The movie turned out to be one of the biggest movie failures of 2007.

"Sawaariya was a disaster, but the experience taught me a lot. Being directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali is something that an actor never forgets. And in my next life - if I were to be reborn again as an actor, I will still choose Saawariya 10 times over," says Kapoor emphatically. Though you are tempted to cringe at the bombastic words, his loyalty to his lot is laudable. He has now transferred his affections to debutante director Mukerji.

"I am willing to write this in blood: Ayan is going to be the Woody Allen of Indian cinema," says Kapoor with pomp. "He may be young, but he is an expert in Indian cinema. I had such a blast working with him." But 26-year-old filmmaker Mukerji is not as sure. In fact he begins his interview with tabloid! on an apologetic note with an "I am yet to learn how to conduct myself in public," disclaimer.

Lost Boy

"Honestly, I still feel like a lost boy. I am 26 but there are times when I am still grappling with an identity-crisis of sorts. There is a part of me, the drifter personality in me, in that film," says Mukerji.

Meanwhile Kapoor is equally lavish with his praise about his co-star Konkona Sen Sharma. Sharma plays the grounding force in the anchorless Sid's life. But his saccharine attitude comes to a halt when we ask him about his future projects.

"I am a very greedy actor. If I could have my way, I want to experience all the roles and the characters out there. I want to act, produce, direct - I want to try out every role that is out there." He is equally determined to retain his bachelor existence and has no plans of marrying his longtime sweetheart Deepika Padukone any time soon.

"I will think about marrying only after three or four years. Right now, it's all about making good movies."
