'THE SIMPLE THINGS IN LIFE' AIR FORCE VETERAN SMART, CARING AND ALWAYS THANKFUL.

An Air Force veteran, Glendon Walker will be remembered by his family and friends for being a font of information on world history and pirate lore.

Walker died at his Northridge home on Oct. 7. He was 68.

``He was an avid reader,'' said Thelma Beletzos, a friend since 1967. ``He read all kinds of history. He could give you details, all kinds of trivia and dates on historical events. He liked to watch news programs, especially 'Lou Dobbs.' He had strong opinions on issues and political personalities.''

Glendon Wayne Walker Wayne Harrison Walker (born September 30, 1936 in Boise, Idaho) is a former professional football player and sports broadcaster. He played outside linebacker for the Detroit Lions for fifteen seasons from 1958-72. Wearing #55, he played in 200 regular season games as a 6'2", 225 lb.  was born July 18, 1937, in Portland, Maine Portland is the largest city in the U.S. state of Maine, with a 2004 population of 63,882. Portland is Maine's cultural, social and economic capital. Tourists are drawn to Portland's historic Old Port district along Portland Harbor, which is at the mouth of the Fore River and part .  in 1956, then enlisted in the Air Force, serving from 1957 to 1961 as a communications operator.

Walker dealt blackjack blackjack, one of the world's most widely played gambling card games; also known as twenty-one or vingt-et-un. Despite contesting claims between the French and Italians, its origins are unknown.  for a time in Las Vegas, before moving to Northridge, where he worked as a manufacturing supervisor for a local printing company. A car accident and disabling stroke ended his career.

``The simple things in life made him happy - going out and having birthday, seeing a tree or being with his grandchildren,'' said his daughter, Kimberly Whelan.

Walker was an avid reader, who especially loved stories about World War II battles, espionage and pirates.

``Anyone who met him would say, 'He was the most brilliant man I ever met,''' she said. ``He didn't like to talk about himself. He would rather talk about you. He was smart, caring and always thankful for the little things in life.''

He enjoyed listening to country music, especially songs by Johnny Cash. He had a sweet tooth and loved European licorice licorice (lĭk`ərĭs, –rĭsh), name for a European plant (Glycyrrhiza glabra) of the family Leguminosae (pulse family) and for the sweet substance obtained from the root.  and See's candy.

Walker, who couldn't drive due to his disability and relied on the Meals on Wheels n. 1. A program that delivers hot meals to persons, such as the elderly or disabled, who are confined to their homes and unable to cook for themselves; also, the meals thus delivered. Such programs are usually conducted by governmental or charitable organizations.  program for lunches, appreciated being picked up to go to one of his favorite restaurants, Brent's Deli in Northridge.

In addition to his daughter, Walker is survived by three grandsons and a sister, Rose Helen Waker.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday at Mission Hills Catholic Mortuary, followed by burial at San Fernando Mission Cemetery The San Fernando Mission Cemetery is a Roman Catholic cemetery operated by the Los Angeles Archdiocese since 1800, and is located at 11160 Stranwood Avenue in the Mission Hills community of northern Los Angeles, California, near the Mission San Fernando Rey de EspaƱa. .
