'THE FIRM' IS NO. 1 AT BOX OFFICE FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE WEEKEND -- $13.3 MILLION WEEKEND GROSS BRINGS FILM'S TOTAL TO $95.8 MILLION

 HOLLYWOOD, July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- "The Firm," starring Tom Cruise, remained the No. 1 film at the box office for the third weekend in a row by grossing $13,281,416 with 2,393 prints in the United States and Canada for a per-print average of $5,550, it was announced today by Barry London, president of the Motion Picture Group of Paramount Pictures. The film has achieved a 19-day gross (June 30 - July 18) of $95,804,149.
 "The Firm" grossed $3,900,950 on Friday (July 16), $5,697,850 on Saturday (17), and $3,682,616 on Sunday (18).
 Cruise stars in "The Firm," a drama based on the John Grisham bestseller. Also starring Gene Hackman, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Ed Harris, Holly Hunter, Hal Holbrook, and David Strathairn, the film was directed by Sydney Pollack from a screenplay by David Rabe and Robert Towne & David Rayfiel. Scott Rudin, John Davis and Pollack are the producers, and Michael Hausman and Lindsay Doran are the executive producers. The cast includes Wilford Brimley and Gary Busey.
 Cruise stars as Mitch McDeere, a honors graduate of an Ivy League school who forgoes offers at top big city law firms and accepts a position with a small yet wealthy partnership in Memphis, Tenn. The firm leases him a Mercedes, pays off his student loans and arranges a mortgage for his first home. It doesn't take long for Mitch to discover that the firm is not what it appears to be. What seemed like a golden opportunity could cost him his life.
 MPAA-rated R, "The Firm" is presented in Dolby Stereo in selected theaters. The soundtrack album is available on MCA/GRP Cassettes and Compact Discs. Paramount Pictures is part of the entertainment operations of Paramount Communications Inc.
