'Stronger' Alex vow in takeover.


THE Alexandra Theatre The Alexandra Theatre, commonly known as The Alex, is a theatre on Station Street in Birmingham, England.

The theatre was first opened May 27 1901 as the Lyceum Theatre
 is under new ownership after its owner was taken over in a pounds 90 million deal.

The 108-year-old venue has been taken over by The Ambassador Theatre Group The Ambassador Theatre Group was co-founded by Howard Panter and Rosemary Squire in 1992. The company, known as ATG, is the largest Theatre Group in London's West End, and the second largest Theatre Group in the United Kingdom. , after a deal was struck with former owner Live Nation for a total of 16 venues, including West End theatres the Lyceum Lyceum, gymnasium near ancient Athens

Howard Panter, ATG's joint chief executive and creative director, said proposals for the newlyacquired theatres were still being worked up, but there were no plans to cut any jobs at The Alex.

He said he has a vision of The Alex as "a theatre of national stature but with local sensitivity".

Mr Panter said: "We would like to see musicals going there and the plan is to have more things that are Birmingham-centric.

"I have been talking to a couple of Brummie actors about a project. I can't say too much about it but it is something that a Birmingham audience can identify with.

"We are hoping that by bringing the two successful companies together, which includes The Alex, that we will be building a bigger and stronger Alexandra."
