'STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION' MULTIMEDIA GAMES HIT EARTH AT CES, FROM SPECTRUM HOLOBYTE BOOTH NO. 6545, PAVILION B

CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW, LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Making an Earthly debut, Spectrum HoloByte will unveil portions of its highly anticipated "Star Trek: The Next Generation" multimedia games on three individual formats -- Super NES, PC CD-ROM and 3DO -- at the Winter Consumer Electronics Show here.
Based on Paramount's Emmy Award-winning syndicated "Star Trek: The Next Generation" television series, each platform features an originally written and produced story that takes its players to interstellar worlds of interactive space adventure.
"Let the `Star Trek: The Next Generation' interactive games begin," declared Gilman Louie, chairman of Spectrum HoloByte. "When Spectrum obtained the license from Paramount Pictures, we set out to deliver interactive games as close to the television series as technically and creatively possible. Not only will the loyal Trekkers devour these games, but game enthusiasts in general will be impressed."
All three "Star Trek: The Next Generation" titles stay true to the look and feel of the television series, offering gripping story lines with the ability to play as many as one to seven main characters, either individually or as a team.

"Star Trek: The Next Generation" "Future's Past"
The mission of "Future's Past" is to solve the mystery of the most powerful device in the galaxy: The Derandomizer. Long considered a myth, the Derandomizer returns from the past to threaten the future of the Federation. But the Federation isn't involved in this alone: The Romulans have crossed the forbidden Neutral Zone and mysterious alien Chodak fleets are also on the move.

"Star Trek: The Next Generation" "A Final Unity"
In "A Final Unity," players embark on a quest for the Fifth Scroll and experience a journey far beyond imagination with the crew of the Starship Enterprise(TM). The mission is to maintain the integrity of the galaxy. Maneuver the Starship Enterprise (designated NCC-1701-D) within a 3-D tactical space. Beam down the Away Team to investigate alien planets. Explore any of the hundreds of stars within known space and use the vast resources of the Starship Enterprise to meet the challenges that await.

"Star Trek: The Next Generation" "A World for All Seasons"
The "Star Trek: The Next Generation" 3DO game, "A World for All Seasons," is based on a complex story line full of action, drama and intrigue. The U.S.S. Enterprise is embroiled in a civil war on the planet Pallarius that threatens to destroy that civilization. As members of the crew, players must work to unite warring factions and ultimately save an ancient endangered race. In the course of this multilayered story, players also may engage in any one of three action games including a riveting 3-D space encounter. The 3DO System's processing power allows "Star Trek: The Next Generation" 3DO to include virtual actor technology. Each "Star Trek: The Next Generation" cast member that appears in the game is actually a 3-D rendered image with which players must interact.
As a part of the official unveiling of the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" interactive games, TV series actors including Brent Spiner (Lt. Commander Data), will appear in the Spectrum HoloByte booth Thursday, Jan. 6.
Spectrum HoloByte of Alameda, Calif., a developer and publisher of interactive entertainment including personal computer and video game systems, is best known for "Falcon(R)," the popular F-16 flight simulation and "Tetris(R)," the famous game of falling blocks.
"Star Trek: The Next Generation" is produced by the Network Television Division and distributed by the Domestic Television of Paramount Pictures. Paramount Pictures is a part of the entertainment operations of Paramount Communications Inc.
