'Purls' of wisdom.PENSIONERS broke a Guinness World Record by knitting the biggest tea cosy on the planet. Residents of two Huddersfield Bupa care homes took part in the challenge to raise awareness of 'communi-tea week'. The care homes are hosting afternoon tea parties to raise awareness of isolation and loneliness in older people. Jacky Wisdom, home manager at Cleveland House said: "Not that we ever need an excuse to put the kettle on, but now we can raise our mugs in celebration of a great cause and a world record." Residents from Cleveland House Nursing Home in Edgerton and Lindley Grange Nursing Home put their knitting needles together to create the cosy masterpiece. They joined 300 Bupa care homes across the UK, Spain and New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland. who sent in their own knitted squares for the giant cosy. Siobhan Drane, Bupa's community consultant, said: "A simple cup of tea could make all the difference to someone in need of support. "We've got a huge variety of tea-related events planned, including tea dances and tea-tasting sessions.
