'Posh' sandwich chain to open in St David's Centre; Pret A Manger latest brand to announce presence in shopping.

 sandwich chain Pret A Manger Pret A Manger (French for "Ready to Eat") (informally "Pret") is a UK sandwich retailer. As of January 2007, some stores are being rebranded to just "Pret". The company was founded in London in 1986 by friends Sinclair Beecham and Julian Metcalfe who met while studying property law  is the latest company to confirm it will open an outlet in Cardiff's new St David's

St David's (Welsh: Tyddewi) is the smallest city in the United Kingdom, with a population of under 2,000 people.

The London firm is now recruiting staff for the new store - its first in Wales - and is holding an open day at the city's Parc Hotel on September 22. St David's opens on October 22.

Clive Schlee, Pret A Manger's chief executive, said: "We are moving steadily westward. We've moved into Bristol some time ago and now we are opening in Cardiff. St David's is a modern shopping centre in a good location. Over the years we've looked at the city and this is the best option."

Pret A Manger first opened in London in 1986, developing a reputation for making sandwiches using natural, preservative-free ingredients. There are now about 225 Pret A Manger shops worldwide, with an annual turnover of about pounds 200m.

Neil Carron, project director for St David's, said: "It is great news that Pret A Manger are recruiting for new jobs in Cardiff which shows that they are in a confident position and we hope that they will be at St David's ready for opening on October 22."

The announcement comes days after another high-profile restaurant chain YO! Sushi YO! Sushi is a British restaurant chain which was started by British entrepreneur Simon Woodroffe and is part of the YO! Company. YO! Sushi uses the Japanese style conveyor belt method of delivering sushi to customers.  confirmed it would open in the centre too.

My Ly, marketing manager for the sushi chain that already has 56 restaurants in five countries, said: "For our first venture in Wales, we have designed a fabulous restaurant as befits a capital city. We have always wanted to have a presence in Cardiff and to be part of the new St Davids development gives us a wonderful opportunity to bring the YO! dining experience to Wales.

"We passionately believe in providing great tasting Japanese inspired food freshly prepared from both quality and nutritional ingredients and feel the restaurant will be a fantastic addition to Cardiff's shopping heaven."

Paul Williams Paul Williams is the name of several musicians:
  • Paul Williams (The Temptations) (1939–1973), one of the lead singers of the popular Motown act The Temptations
, Cardiff's city centre manager, said: "By offering retail and restaurant brands of the highest calibre, the Welsh capital is reinforcing its position as one of Europe's most vibrant destination cities."
