National Health Service NHS (in Britain) National Health Service Calderdale will debate the pros and cons of fluoridisation in the borough. A report is expected to be completed by spring next year. But Rastrick councillor Craig Whittaker is urging the council and public to oppose fluoridisation and will put a motion to Calderdale Council on October 1. Yorkshire and Humber Strategic Health Authority will have the final say in whether to put the chemical, which is believed to have dental benefits for children, in the water supply. Clr Whittaker said: "It is totally unacceptable that the Strategic Health Authority is able to force people to have fluoride in water; it defies the most basic of human rights, that people have control over their own bodies. "Research clearly shows that continued exposure to fluoride can have significant health implications; the process that the Government has set down for making this decision goes against the fundamental principle of freedom of choice. "Mass medication is not, and never will be the answer." |
