'No surprise at plan to axe school'.

PARENTS and governors of a school facing the axe say they are not surprised that education chiefs in Cardiff have recommended closure to make way for the expansion of a Welsh primary.

The recommendation to close Lansdowne Primary in Canton will be considered by the council's ruling executive today.

It is likely that they will rubber stamp the decision to close the school and hand the building over to Ysgol Treganna, which is severely overcrowded o·ver·crowd

The majority of pupils from Lansdowne would then move into the Radnor Primary school. If the decision is approved a public consultation will be launched.

And if formal objections are received during this period the final decision on whether the school closes will have to be made by the Education Minister Jane Hutt.

The Save Lansdowne Primary Action Committee say they have never had a fair hearing from the council since the proposal was first published and welcome the chance to put their case to the Minister.
