'Massive support for airport road'.


THERE is "overwhelming support" among the people of Barry for an access road to Cardiff International Airport Cardiff International Airport (Welsh: Maes Awyr Rhyngwladol Caerdydd) (IATA: CWL, ICAO: EGFF) is an major British airport located in the village of Rhoose, Vale of Glamorgan, approximately , according to the MP for the area.

Vale MP John Smith carried out a survey of thousands of Barry residents asking for their views on plans to build an access road to the airport.

Mr Smith said almost 90% of people who responded said they supported a direct link road from the M4 which would serve Cardiff airport and the multi-billion-pound Defence Technical Academy at St Athan.

He was Member of the UK parliament for Ynys Môn constituency from 1987-2001. , Minister for the Economy and Transport, is expected to announce the Welsh Assembly Government's preferred route for the road in January next year.

Mr Smith said: "Building the road will create jobs for local people, improve Barry's connectivity to the M4 which will create new business opportunities and help towards the regeneration of the town, and ensure that two jewels in the Welsh economy are served by an improved road system.

"Building the road could help kick-start the Welsh economy.

"The Welsh Assembly Government The Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) (Welsh: Llywodraeth Cynulliad Cymru, LlCC) was firstly an executive body of the National Assembly for Wales, consisting of the First Minister and his Cabinet from 1999 to 2007.  should use the extra pounds 140m it has received from the Treasury for road building to urgently start the construction of this vital link."
