'Life in danger' risk for Vidmar.


Former Cardiff City defender Tony Vidmar Tony Vidmar (born July 4, 1970 in Adelaide) is an Australian football (soccer) player of Slovenian-Italian origin, currently playing with the Central Coast Mariners in the Australian A-League.  was told a serious heart condition would endanger his life if he played for Australia in the World Cup. Vidmar said: 'The doctor told me playing football would be fatal and I was playing with my life. It was a huge shock to me.

'It all started at the beginning of last month. I went for a stress test and a cardiologist found an irregular heartbeat.

'Further examination found my left coronary artery had a blood clot, which was restricting the blood flow.

'I was young and fit. I did not think it could happen to me.

'I want people to know that it can happen to anyone at any age.

'Going to the World Cup was always my goal, but I was told that it could be fatal.'
