'LOST' WILL SURELY BE FOUND ON DVD AFTER NOMINATION.

Byline: Greg Hernandez Staff Writer

With four major Oscar nominations, including one for Best Picture, ``Lost in Translation'' is poised to make an even bigger splash when it hits video stores next week.

Distributor Universal Studios Home Video got all kinds of free publicity for ``Translation'' this week not only from its Oscar nods for actor Bill Murray

On Tuesday, it was already ranked second on Amazon.com's best-seller list, based on presale orders alone.

``Translation'' had a decent but not spectacular run at the box office, earning $34.6 million domestically.

``It's been surging at the box office these past few weeks, and it will be interesting to see how the video release affects things,'' said box office analyst Brandon Gray of Boxofficemojo.com.

``It might turn out to be a smart thing to go out on DVD since DVD is such a hot market now.''

Best Picture nominee ``Seabiscuit'' is already a major seller on home video, as has been ``Pirates of the Caribbean This article is about the franchise. For other, more specific uses, see Pirates of the Caribbean (disambiguation). For real pirates, see Piracy in the Caribbean.

``We expect to see a second life for 'Seabiscuit,' 'Whale Rider' and 'Finding Nemo,' '' said Cynthia Lin, spokeswoman for WalMart.com.

Also climbing is ``Thirteen,'' which made its home-video release earlier this month. After Holly Hunter earned a Best Supporting Actress nod for the film, it has risen to 14th on Amazon.

Lin said that, in the weeks before the Feb. 29 Oscar telecast, movie sales in general will be on the upswing because enthusiasm is so high not only over the nominated films, but about movies overall.

But in the end, it will be Best Picture nominee ``The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King'' that will be the biggest home-video success of them all whenever it hits store shelves.
