Hitman Howard is top of manager Dave Jones' wanted list to join his strike force alongside Steven Thompson, Michael Chopra Michael Chopra (born 23 December 1983 in Newcastle upon Tyne) is an English footballer playing professionally for the Premier League side Sunderland. A striker, he has previously played for Newcastle United and Cardiff City and has spent loan spells at Watford, Nottingham and Andrea Ferretti. The Bluebirds have offered pounds 500,000 for Howard - and a big pay rise from his current pounds 1,000-plus a week. He is still under contract for another year at Luton, who value the player at double what Cardiff is offering. Jones still wants another 'three or four' players in quickly with Howard, Arsenal full-back Kerrea Gilbert (loan), Liverpool keeper Scott Carson (loan) and Jason Koumas, from West Brom, the priorities. That would take the number of Cardiff signings to 12, including central defender Glenn Loovens who was on loan from Feyenoord last season. Talks continue with West Brom, who want more than the pounds 1.5m City are offering for Koumas. The players already signed by Jones are Chopra, Stephen McPhail, Kevin McNaughton, goalkeeper Mark Howard, Roger Johnson, Nick McKoy and Malvin Kamara. |
