'Help us catch the hire-car rapist' plea; POLICE WARN THAT VICIOUS ATTACKER COULD STILL STRIKE AGAIN.

POLICE have made a fresh appeal for help in snaring a rapist who posed as a hire-car driver to lure his victim into his car.

The man tricked his 38-year-old victim into believing she was getting into a private-hire cab when he stopped to pick her up in Foleshill Road, between St Paul's Road and Broad Street, on Friday, March 26.

Since the attack another woman has come forward who said she thought she had been approached by the same man a week earlier, and police warned that he might strike again.

The first woman believed to have been targeted by the rapist said she was waiting for a lift from her husband outside the Unicorn Club on Holbrook Lane, at about 11pm on March 19, when she was approached by a man who tried to get her into his car.

Her husband arrived before anything happened.

The second woman was attacked after getting into a car in Foleshill Road, Coventry, between 1-2am on Friday, March 26.

The attacker is described as being of Eastern European appearance, with olive skin.

He is in his mid-20s, of stocky build, with thick swept-back black hair and dark eyes DARK EYES USN Electronic Warfare System . He was clean-shaven with a round face. He spoke in broken English and wore a brown, red and green check shirt and light cotton jacket.

Officers believe he was driving a dark saloon car, possibly an F or H- registered Ford Orion.

Police guidelines include: only black cabs can be hailed in the street; private-hire vehicles should be telephoned in advance; passengers should check for badges and driver's ID before travelling.
