'HERBIE' POWERED BY LOHAN.

Byline: Bob Strauss Film Critic

IS LOVING Lindsay Lohan Lindsay Dee Lohan (born July 2 1986) is an American actress and pop music singer. Lohan started in show business as a child fashion model for magazine advertisement and television commercials.  so wrong?

``Herbie: Fully Loaded'' puts that question to the test - more, perhaps, than any innuendo innuendo n. from Latin innuere, "to nod toward." In law it means "an indirect hint." "Innuendo" is used in lawsuits for defamation (libel or slander), usually to show that the party suing was the person about whom the nasty statements were made or why the comments  about the teen star's personal life.

It's her third remake of a Disney family comedy. And compared to the relatively sophisticated and technique-heavy ``Parent Trap'' and ``Freaky Friday,'' the return of the self-possessed Volkswagen is the least of the three.

Rather than relying on Lohan's proven ability to play opposite herself or channel Jamie Lee Curtis Editing of this page by unregistered or newly registered users is currently disabled due to vandalism. , ``Herbie'' depends almost entirely on the young actor's unforced, on-screen on·screen or on-screen

charisma. She drives it home in practically every scene. Considering the circumstances, that's real movie magic.

After opening with a painfully broad, slapstick slapstick

Comedy characterized by broad humour, absurd situations, and vigorous, often violent action. It took its name from a paddlelike device, probably introduced by 16th-century commedia dell'arte troupes, that produced a resounding whack when one comic actor used it to

scuzzy - The usual pronunciation of SCSI.
junkyard, ``Herbie'' both brightens up and settles down once Lohan's Maggie Peyton is introduced. There's a lot more door-smacking and fluid-squirting to come, but somehow Lohan grounds the juvenile humor with her own believable behavior.

Maggie is the speed-needing daughter of failing stock-car team owner Ray Peyton Sr. (Michael Keaton), a widower who's refused to let his little darling race since the time she crashed into a tree. Her college graduation present Herbie has other ideas, though. As series tradition warrants, he steers his new mistress toward a soul mate, the witty mechanic Kevin (Justin Long). The lad tricks up the old clunker clunk·er

well enough to challenge egotistical NASCAR NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing), organization that sanctions American stock-car races, est. 1948. It held its first race in Daytona Beach, Fla.  god Trip Murphy (Matt Dillon, having a good, villainous time) to a series of increasingly high-stakes races.

Mild intrigue involves Maggie's efforts to prevent her father from finding out that she's this mysterious new driver everybody's talking about. Of course, she must also prevent everyone from learning that she talks to her car.

``Herbie'' is a pretty formulaic sports comedy written by multiple hands, including some that were responsible for ``The Pacifier'' and ``Taxi.'' There's a serviceable girl-power parable in there, and sometimes you actually think that the car can, well, think. The special effects don't look all that remarkable but were probably more difficult to pull off than they appear. The Volkswagen goes through many, mostly amusing incarnations, and its final, totally pimped rendition is deftly worked into a real NASCAR race.

Still, this would be a standard baby-sitter of a movie without one hypernatural flame-haired element. Director Angela Robinson gets pretty solid performances out of all the actors, no small feat with this material - and something she failed to do with her wretchedly performed first movie, ``D.E.B.S.'' But Lohan is a magnetic force beyond directing control, someone just so pleasingly watchable watch·a·ble
