'Glass act' honored by MAD Museum.


The Museum of Arts & Design will confer its 11th annual Visionaries! Awards, celebrating individuals who have advanced the fields of craft, art and design, on Tuesday, October 26, at Cipriani 42nd Street, Manhattan.

Visionaries! is the Museum's most important annual benefit and helps underwrite exhibitions and educational programs. This year Visionaries! will and celebrate the extraordinary careers of: Kenneth A. Himmel, a longtime supporter of artists through significant commissions and president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Related Urban Development; Lino Tagliapietra Lino Tagliapietra (b. 1934 in Murano, Italy) is an Italian glass artist.

Lino was born on the island of Murano in 1934. Murano, an island who's history of glass dates back to 1291, provided Lino with the perfect educational environment to become one of the greatest glass
, one of the world's greatest glass artists; and the internationally acclaimed designers Lella and Massimo Vignelli Massimo Vignelli (born 1931) is a designer who has done work in a number of areas ranging from package design to furniture design to public signage to showroom design through Vignelli Associates, which he co-founded with his wife Lella. .

The black-tie event will include silent and live auctions chaired by well-known artist Dan Dailey Daniel James Dailey Jr. (born December 14, 1913; died October 16, 1978) was an American dancer and actor. Biography

Himmel has significantly redefined the concept of the urban landscape through mixed-use projects such as Chicago's Water Tower Place; Seattle's Pacific Place; Boston's Copley Place Copley Place is an enclosed shopping mall located in the Back Bay section of Boston, Massachusetts. It is part of a complex that includes office buildings, two hotels, and a parking garage. ; and the spectacular Time Warner Center The Time Warner Center is a mixed-use skyscraper developed by The Related Companies in New York City. Its design, by David Childs and Mustafa Kemal Abadan of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, consists of two 229 m (750 ft) towers bridged by a multi-story atrium containing upscale retail , the Museum's new neighbor on Columbus Circle.

Lino Tagliapietra has been a leader in the renaissance of glassblowing. Throughout his six-decade career, he has generously shared his experience, understanding and knowledge of traditional Venetian techniques with audiences around the world by mentoring other artists.
