He was told that the Swedish surgeons at the treatment centre had taken too much bone away before fitting the knee. "I was told the new knee would last for 10 to 15 years but within a year I was having a second operation. Obviously I was not happy," he said. Mr Willans first noticed problems a month after the original operation, when he was unable to bend his knee properly. "Within two months, the knee had developed a clunking clunk n. 1. "I couldn't climb stairs or steps properly - that was the main reason why I decided to have the operation to correct the problem."
