This research-based, classroom-tested program lets students learn science by doing science. FOSS was first adopted in California in 1994, and is used in many elementary schools throughout the state, including the LAUSD. Last year a new California edition of FOSS was introduced specifically to meet the California science standards. "FOSS for Families" gives parents an opportunity to perform science experiments just like their children do in class. The activities are fun and engaging, and they introduce important scientific concepts in ways that encourage learning and cooperation. Participants will get to try their hand at experiments and talk to the principal investigator of the program, Dr. Larry Lowery, who will be the featured speaker at the event.
