'Experts' worry us.THIS is in response to the letters and information regarding flu and H1N1 vaccinations. Having "experts" warn us about the H1N1 vaccination has caused a lot of concern and confusion for many parents. It makes us worried that we will make the wrong decision that will adversely affect our children's health. I have looked into some of the claims. With regards to getting a flu shot, it is best to call the pharmacy to see if they have it before setting up an appointment to get one. The regular flu shot has been available, but the H1N1 supposedly won't be available until November or December. There are different companies producing vaccines, and depending on what they have produced, the method of delivery might vary (whether it is a nasal spray or whether you need more than one dose). The adjuvants (agents that can increase the response to a vaccine) are supposed to make the vaccines more effective and reduce the need for multiple vaccinations. The research referred to by the nutritional expert, Ms Al Moayed, in The American Journal of Pathology, was in the year 2000, about the adjuvant adjuvant /ad·ju·vant/ (aj?dbobr-vant) (a-joo´vant) 1. assisting or aiding. 2. a substance that aids another, such as an auxiliary remedy. 3. squalene squalene (skwäˑ·lēn), n a popular traditional Asian remedy derived from the liver oil of sharks. being used in some vaccines. I looked in the same journal that she had cited and found many subsequent studies on the same adjuvant. In other words Adv. 1. in other words - otherwise stated; "in other words, we are broke" put differently , there has been quite a bit of research done on it since then. The aluminium adjuvant has already been used in vaccines that most people have had. There had been reports about squalene being a factor in Gulf War Syndrome Gulf War syndrome, popular name for a variety of ailments experienced by veterans after the Persian Gulf War. Symptoms reported include nausea, cramps, rashes, short-term memory loss, fatigue, difficulty in breathing, headaches, joint and muscle pain, and birth (GWS GWS Gulf War Syndrome (see also PGS) GWS Get Well Soon GWS Great White Shark GWS Google Web Server GWS Goes Without Saying GWS Gun Weapon System GWS GroupWare Server (DMS/FAMIS applications) ). It had been used as an adjuvant in anthrax vaccines. However, those receiving it were getting vaccinated for anthrax and other biological warfare agents. Not only have they not concluded definitively that the wartime vaccinations are responsible for GWS, it was not clear, to me, that squalene was the one thing that made people sick. With regards to Dr Leonard G Horowitz who appeared on television denouncing the H1N1 vaccination programme, I recommend that those who are concerned look him up on the Internet. He has extensive education and experience however, he has also published a great deal of material, given lectures, and promoted products, including silver hydrosol hydrosol /hy·dro·sol/ (hi´dro-sawl) a sol in which the dispersion medium is water. hy·dro·sol n. A colloid with water as the dispersing medium. , that he says will make risky vaccinations a thing of the past. One of his adverts shows a scared baby with a bunch of needles and a vaccine containing thimerosal thimerosal /thi·mero·sal/ (thi-mer´o-sal) an organomercurial antiseptic that is antifungal and bacteriostatic for many nonsporulating bacteria, used as a topical antiinfective and as a pharmaceutical preservative. (mercury) with the caption Vaccination Genocide. My personal opinion is that he is quite sensationalist sen·sa·tion·al·ism n. 1. a. The use of sensational matter or methods, especially in writing, journalism, or politics. b. Sensational subject matter. c. Interest in or the effect of such subject matter. and that he stands to benefit by exploiting people's fears. Best wishes to everyone in making a decision that is right for your family. I hope the vaccine will be available to all who do decide to get it. Lisa Copyright 2009 Gulf Daily News Provided by Syndigate.info an Albawaba.com company |
