Brit slang, derogatory a young working-class person who dresses in casual sports clothes
 funpacks - the word chav fuels "class hatred" and should be stamped out altogether, a leading think tank has warned.

Tom Hampson of the left-wing Fabian Society Fabian Society, British socialist society. An outgrowth of the Fellowship of the New Life (founded 1883 under the influence of Thomas Davidson), the society was developed the following year by Frank Podmore and Edward Pease.  reckons the derogatory de·rog·a·to·ry  
adj.
1. Disparaging; belittling: a derogatory comment.

2. Tending to detract or diminish.

 and dangerous, and shouldn't be acceptable".

He says: "It is deeply offensive to a largely voiceless group and, especially when used in normal middle-class conversation or on national TV, it betrays a deep and revealing level of class hatred."

He adds that the term should be as taboo as some racist words and derogatory slang to describe gay people.
