'Dioxin-Free' XLPE Makes Flame-Retardant Wire Insulation.


Two new peroxide-curable, crosslinked PE insulation compounds are said to contain "non-dioxin-forming" halogenated halogenated

, and SIS applications. Both also are rated for sunlight resistance and should meet UL standards for CT and Tray Cable ratings, the company says.

Equistar says XL 07633 passes the VW-1 flame test "with a comfortable margin" and meets the latest and more stringent UL44 vertical flame test. XL 04711 is rated HB-1. Both products have a new processing aid that is said to minimize die drool, which causes "horse collar" formation, a common problem with peroxide-cured PE.
