DISH OWNERS IN 'THE CLASH OF THE LEGENDS'

TVN Entertainment to Broadcast Basketball Spectacular Via Pay-Per-View
BURBANK, Calif., Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- "The Clash Of The Legends," the spectacular basketball event pitting superstars Julius "Dr. J" Erving against Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, will be made available to satellite dish owners on Friday, Feb. 28 by TVN Entertainment, it was announced today by Stu Levin, president and chief executive officer of TVN. This pay-per-view extravaganza will be beamed live at 9 p.m. EST/6 p.m. PST from the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, N.J., to subscribers on TVN's T303-2 channel for only $19.95.
"The Clash Of The Legends" features two of the game's all-time greatest players who went head to head in numerous on-court battles between Erving's Philadelphia 76ers and Jabbar's Los Angeles Lakers. Both are coming out of retirement to determine who is the one-on-one king. A portion of the proceeds from this live telecast will be donated to AIDS-related research, the American Foundation for AIDS Research (AmFAR) and the Magic Johnson Foundation.
Erving was a three-time scoring leader in the American Basketball Association, two-time ABA MVP and once co-MVP. During his 11 years with the Philadelphia 76ers, Erving was named to the NBA 35th anniversary All-Time Team in 1980, was the league's MVP in 1981 and played for the 76ers championship team in 1983. He was also the MVP in the 1977 and 1983 NBA All-Star Games. Erving retired in 1987.
Abdul-Jabbar is the NBA's all-time leading scorer and rebounder, the league's only six-time MVP and a 17-time NBA All-Star. After a spectacular career at UCLA, where he led the Bruins to three NCAA championships, he was rookie of the year in 1969-70 with the Milwaukee Bucks, where he won his first NBA championship ring the following year. He was traded to the Lakers prior to the 1975-76 season and played for five Los Angeles championship teams. The first NBA player to compete in 20 seasons, Abdul-Jabbar retired in 1989.
"We're very excited to bring this event, featuring two of basketball's legendary players, to our home satellite dish owners. Not only is TVN offering compelling programming for sports fans, but we are pleased that the broadcast can help raise funds to create more awareness of the AIDS epidemic. TVN strives to offer its viewing audience a wide range of programming and 'The Clash Of The Legends' is a wonderful complement to the special events currently being offered. We expect this superstar basketball spectacular to be well received by our pay- per-view customers," said Levin.
TVN is the world's largest direct-to-home satellite television programming service, offering 10 of Hollywood's newest movie releases and special event programming, on a pay-per-view basis, 24 hours a day on 10 different channels.
