'DAIRY QUEEN' SYSTEM PLEDGES $2.4 MILLION TO CHILDREN'S MIRACLE NETWORK
MINNEAPOLIS, June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- At the close of the Children's Miracle Network Telethon today, a check for $2.4 million was presented on behalf of the "Dairy Queen" stores in the United States and Canada. In total, the 21-hour telethon raised more than $106.66 million for 160 participating hospitals for children throughout North America. The telethon is now the largest fund raiser of its kind in the United States. What makes the CMN unique is that 100 percent of the funds raised in a local market stays in that community to benefit the local participating hospital for children.
The "Dairy Queen" system has been a major corporate sponsor of the Children's Miracle Network since 1984 and has raised more than $14 million during that time.
"Dairy Queen" store operators raise funds through local efforts such as the "Blizzard" Benefit, in which up to 50 cents for each "Blizzard" Flavor Treat sold during a specified time is donated to CMN; the sale of Paper Miracle Balloons, in which customers donate $1 for a Miracle Balloon that is displayed on the "DQ" store with their name on it, and other local efforts such as car washes and parking lot carnivals.
"Most of the 'Dairy Queen' customers are families with children. As a parent and new grandfather, I can appreciated the benefits brought about by the efforts of the CMN," saids IDQ President Michael P. Sullivan. "Our support of hospitals for children is a symbol that the well-being of these customers is important to us."
International Dairy Queen, Inc., develops, licenses and services a system of more than 5,300 "Dairy Queen" stores in the United States, Canada and 16 other countries.
