'CRITICALLY UNDERCAPITALIZED' BANKS & THRIFTS NOW AVAILABLE
CORAL GABLES, Fla., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Bauer Financial Reports, Inc., a bank research firm, reports that an analysis of financial data, as reported to federal regulators for the period ended June 30, 1992, and updated through Oct. 20, 1992, indicates that 32 commercial banks, five savings banks and 30 savings & loans are identified as "critically undercapitalized" and are subject to the resolution time frame imposed by Congress on federal regulators in the Federal Deposit Corporation Improvement Act (FDICIA) effective Dec. 19, 1992.
FDICIA provides federal regulators with a capitalization band of between 2 percent and 3.25 percent tangible equity (capital) from which to select a measure of "critically undercapitalized." Regulators are required to act against institutions so designated within 90 days after they are identified and to resolve the institutions within 9 months thereafter.
FDIC regulators have initially selected the lowest point on the band, 2 percent tangible equity, as the measure of "critically undercapitalized." Using that measure, 67 institutions nationwide, with total assets of $35.9 billion, are identified as "critically undercapitalized", based on the most recent financial data available and updated for interim resolutions and capital infusions through Oct. 20, 1992.
Members of the press may request specific details or the entire list by calling Paul A. Bauer, president, or Karen Dorway, director of research, at 305-444-3125. Or fax request to 305-441-0691.
