Actress Shannen Doherty Shannen Maria Doherty (born April 12, 1971) is an American actress and television director, perhaps best known for her work as Heather Duke in Heathers, as Brenda Walsh in Beverly Hills, 90210 and as Prue Halliwell in Charmed. , a star on television's ``Beverly Hills Beverly Hills, city (1990 pop. 31,971), Los Angeles co., S Calif., completely surrounded by the city of Los Angeles; inc. 1914. Doherty, 29, was released from Ventura County jail on her own recognizance own recognizance (O.R.) n. the basis for a judge allowing a person accused of a crime to be free while awaiting trial, without posting bail, on the defendant's own promise to appear and his/her reputation.  and ordered to appear at a Jan. 26 arraignment A criminal proceeding at which the defendant is officially called before a court of competent jurisdiction, informed of the offense charged in the complaint, information, indictment, or other charging document, and asked to enter a plea of guilty, not guilty, or as otherwise permitted  on the misdemeanor charge, authorities said.

 Officer Robert Stuva said.

He added that Doherty did not receive any special treatment following her 2:40 a.m. arrest.

``We don't cater to the celebrity,'' he said. ``We just follow the procedures. This is a standard, routine driving-under-the-influence investigation. There is nothing unusual other than it's a celebrity.''

The incident began when a CHP cruiser pulled Doherty over on the northbound lane at Ventu Park Road after an officer saw her black Ford pickup weaving in and out of the slow lane and the shoulder of the road, reports indicated.

She was given a field sobriety test at the scene and was later taken to jail without incident for a blood exam after she refused a Breathalyzer breathalyzer Public health A device used to detect alcohol on a suspected drunk driver's breath; see DWI  test, authorities said.

Stuva said the results of the blood-alcohol test will not be known for about a week.

Brad Turell, head of publicity for the WB Network, which broadcasts ``Charmed,'' said Doherty's arrest would not have an impact on the show, which is on a holiday hiatus until next month.

``On a personal level, it's not a good thing,'' he said. ``She definitely shouldn't have been driving. But we stand behind her 100 percent. Our only hope is that Shannen is doing well. We don't anticipate any production delays whatsoever.''

Doherty first skyrocketed to fame in the early 1990s on the hit Fox-TV series ``Beverly Hills 90120.''

She currently shares top billing with Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs as three sisters who use mystical powers to fight evil on ``Charmed,'' now in its third season and the network's second-highest-rated show.

Her arrest is not the first time Doherty has encountered the law. After smashing a beer bottle on a car window during an argument in 1997, she was ordered by a Beverly Hills judge to enroll in anger management counseling.
