Instead of losing ribbons of bleed Printing at the very edge of the paper. Many laser printers, including all LaserJets up to the 11x17" 4V, cannot print to the very edge, leaving a border of approximately 1/4". The new web-slitting mechanism, called Banana Split, slices with a single blade, whereas typically two blades are used with a gap between for bleed trim. (Typical winders also use one non-driven banana roller instead of two driven rolls.)

Banana Split reduces costly waste in multilayer barrier films, where trim can't be recycled into the product. It was first used on Reinhold's ASK winder nearly a decade ago, but with AC motor drives.
