'BEAUTY AND THE BEAST' SOUNDTRACK AND SINGLE RECEIVE UNPRECEDENTED SEVEN GRAMMY NOMINATIONS

Alan Menken's and Howard Ashman's Academy Award-Winning Soundtrack
 Lands Album of the Year Nomination
 BURBANK, Calif., Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- In an unprecedented sweep of top Grammy nominations for Walt Disney Records, the Academy Award- winning soundtrack and single to "Beauty and the Beast" have garnered an extraordinary seven Grammy Award nominations, the second highest number of nominations presented this year. With this series of top nominations, Walt Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" continues to be the most successful animated soundtrack in the history of The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS).
 The 35th Annual Grammy Award nominations for the "Beauty and the Beast" soundtrack include: Album of the Year, Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or for Television, Best Instrumental Composition Written for a Motion Picture or for Television, and Best Album for Children. In addition, Walt Disney Records and Epic Records share three nominations for the end title duet, "Beauty and the Beast," performed by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson, for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
 "Beauty and the Beast" was written by the multiple award-winning songwriting team of Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman. In 1992, Menken and Ashman received two Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Original Song for "Beauty and the Beast." The film also received an unprecedented Best Picture nomination for an animated film. Menken and Ashman are also renowned for Disney's smash hit "The Little Mermaid" and this year's blockbuster film, "Aladdin." "The Little Mermaid" and "Beauty and the Beast" soundtracks have each sold more than 2 million units since their release, and "Aladdin" has sold in excess of 1.5 million units since its release in November 1992.
