'ANNIE' BRIGHTENS DAY AT RETIREMENT VILLA TROUPE OF KIDS STAGE MUSICAL FOR DELIGHTED RESIDENTS.

Byline: Sharon Cotal Staff Writer

NEWHALL - Capri Retirement Villa was recently treated to a special performance of the musical ``Annie'' when Star Dance Center took the show on the road - or across the street - to present it to the Villa's elderly residents.

``Annie'' runs away from an orphanage ORPHANAGE, Eng. law. By the custom of London, when a freeman of that city dies, his estate is divided into three parts, as follows: one third part to the widow; another, to the children advanced by him in his lifetime, which is called the orphanage; and the other third part may be by him , operated by cruel Miss Hannigan, and eventually finds a new family with billionaire Oliver Warbucks.

The performance featured a huge backdrop that shifted back and forth from the orphanage to the home of Daddy Warbucks. Children in the cast, 6 to 12 years old, dazzled daz·zle

``The show is so old that our residents know the music,'' Villa activities director Judy Elkins said about the musical. The Broadway version opened in 1977.

``It was something they could relate to.''

While other children's groups have visited the Villa to perform holiday concerts and piano recitals, the Star Dance Center's production of ``Annie'' was the first in which the residents were treated to an entire show complete with costumes and props prop 1

``I was watching the residents (during the show) and I love to see their faces glow,'' Elkins said. ``Children make all the difference.''

Star Dance Center is planning another theater production, `'A Christmas Carol,'' for December, and Elkins hopes the children will return for another performance at the retirement facility.

``The kids were just adorable a·dor·a·ble
