, it was revealed yesterday.

Labour leader Eamon Gilmore said workers are being made redundant so fast the Government cannot process their dole payments quickly enough.

He accused the Taoiseach of not doing "one single thing" to stem the flow of losses, with 300 workers being laid off for each day he has been in power.

Mr Gilmore launched the attack after politicians returned to Leinster House for the first time since July.

He said: "Since you became Taoiseach about 140 days ago 45,628 people have lost their jobs."

Mr Cowen accused him of giving "an unbalance picture".
