''Crash'' and ''Walk the Line'' Take Top Honors at the 56th Annual ACE Eddie Awards for Best Editing of the Year.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- Ron Howard Honored as Filmmaker of the Year; Veteran Editors Ed Abroms, A.C.E. and Terry Rawlings, A.C.E. Honored with Lifetime Career Achievement Awards

"Crash" (edited by Hughes Winborne) and "Walk The Line" (edited by Michael McCusker) took top film honors at the 56th Annual ACE Eddie Awards tonight at the Beverly Hilton Hotel for Best Edited Feature Film/Drama and Best Edited Feature Film/Musical or Comedy respectively. Television winners include "Arrested Development" for Best Edited Half-Hour Series for Television, "Lost" for Best Edited One-Hour Series for Television, "Lackawanna Blues" for Best Edited Miniseries or Motion Picture for Non-Commercial Television, "Deadwood" for Best Edited One-Hour Series for Non-Commercial Television, "March of the Penguins" for Best Edited Documentary, and "Four Minutes" for Best Edited Miniseries or Motion Picture for Commercial Television. The Student Editing Award went to Joo Wan "Jin" Lee of American Film Institute.

The ACE Eddie Awards, presented by American Cinema Editors, recognizes outstanding editing in eight categories of film, television and documentaries.

Academy Award(R) winning filmmaker Ron Howard received the ACE Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year honor presented to him by friend and long-time collaborator Brian Grazer. Cheryl Hines of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" served as the evening's MC.

Lifetime Career Achievement Awards went to industry veterans Ed Abroms, A.C.E. and Terry Rawlings, A.C.E. Their prolific careers were highlighted with clip reels and praise from friends and colleagues during the affair. The evening was presided over by President of American Cinema Editors, Alan Heim, A.C.E.

The audience of over 1,100 was treated to a live performance of the Oscar(R) nominated theme song from "Crash," performed by Oscar(R) nominated singer-songwriter Bird York. York will also be performing at the Academy Awards(R) on March 5.

For the first time in ACE's 56-year tradition of handing out awards, a Miss ACE Eddie was chosen to act as the evening's trophy presenter. Model Dree Crisman, daughter of actress/author Mariel Hemingway and filmmaker Steve Crisman, took on the duties, representing a new generation of showbiz royalty.

Presenters included a long line of friends and colleagues paying tribute to the evening's honorees and nominees including Henry Winkler, Marion Ross, Garry Marshall, Jenna Elfman, James Denton ("Desperate Housewives"), Ray Wise ("Good Night and Good Luck"), Adam Goldberg, Julie Bowen ("Lost," "Boston Legal"), Nadine Velasquez ("My Name is Earl"), Tony Hale & Michael Cera ("Arrested Development"), Clint Howard, and filmmakers William Link and Jon Amiel.

American Cinema Editors

The American Cinema Editors (ACE) is an honorary society of motion picture editors founded in 1950. Film editors are voted into membership on the basis of their professional achievements, their dedication to the education of others and their commitment to the craft of editing. The objectives and purposes of the American Cinema Editors are to advance the art and science of the editing profession; to increase the entertainment value of motion pictures by attaining artistic pre-eminence and scientific achievement in the creative art of editing; to bring into close alliance those editors who desire to advance the prestige and dignity of the editing profession.
