 Thomas K. Duane, and members of the Abingdon Square Alliance cut the ribbon today on the newly renovated Abingdon Square Park Abingdon Square Park is located in the New York City borough of Manhattan in Greenwich Village. The park is bordered by Eighth Avenue, Bank Street, Hudson Street and West 12th Street.

The project was funded with $760,000 allocated by Council Member Quinn.

The old asphalt asphalt (ăs`fôlt, –fălt), brownish-black substance used commonly in road making, roofing, and waterproofing. New entrances have been constructed with segments of the original fence at every point of the triangular park, and all of the park entrances are now wheelchair accessible. Parks & Recreation designers also left extra space next to benches so that people in wheelchairs can sit along the perimeter of the park.. The .222-acre park will be maintained by the Abingdon Square Alliance, a non-profit partner of Parks & Recreation.
