An animal shelter is a facility that houses homeless, lost or abandoned animals; primarily a large variety of dogs and cats.
 has yet to hire a full-time superintendent despite a boost in the offering salary approved by the City Council four months ago.

``We're still looking,'' said Burbank Police Capt. Gordon Bowers. ``We've had a couple of people we thought were good candidates. We have three people on the possibility list, two of them are employees at the shelter.''

The shelter is operated under the auspices of the Police Department. The position of superintendent is now shared by two employees.

In August, the City Council approved a $14,508 increase in annual salary for the position, up from $58,500 to $73,008 a year.
