$7 MILLION OK'D FOR LOCAL ROADS.

A key House committee approved $7 million this week to help fund two major road projects in the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672. .

The funding - $5 million for Santa Clarita's Cross Valley Connector route and $2 million to add car-pool and truck lanes to Interstate 5 - were included in the Transportation Equity Act approved by the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on Wednesday.

The full House of Representatives is scheduled to consider the bill next week.

If eventually approved by Congress and signed by the president, the measure would include funding for one car-pool and one truck bypass lane on both sides of the I-5 from the Antelope Valley Freeway The Antelope Valley Freeway is a freeway in Los Angeles and Kern counties in southern California. The Cross Valley Connector is a network of Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  city roads that will link the I-5 to the 14 Freeway. The 8.5-mile route will be up to eight lanes in some locations and will include bridges, grade-separated crossings and intersections. The funding would help finance the connection of Newhall Ranch Road and Golden Valley Road and provide a direct link between I-5 and state Route 126 on the west and the 14 Freeway and the Golden Valley interchange on the east.
